CANCAO DO BARCO LENTO (Song of Barco Lento)

Barco Lento a navegar
Das serenas águas do rio
Até a praia do mar
Desde o Forte d' Aguada
Ao Caes de Velha Goa
Donde sonhos lindos vi
Ao longo do Mandovi

Já de longe, Barco Lento
Impelem - te as ondas
e o vento
Vem, não percas
nem um memento
Barco leve, Barco Lento

About Goa

State of Goa is located on the western coast of India in the coastal belt known as Konkan. Variously known as "Pearl of the Orient" and a "Tourist Paradise",

The magnificent scenic beauty and the architectural splendours of its temples, churches and old houses have made Goa a firm favourite with travellers around the world.

Panaji (Panjim) is the state capital located on the banks of the Mandovi river and Vasco, Margao, Mapusa and Ponda are the other major towns. Goa is serviced by an international/national airport located at Dabolim near Vasco.

The sea and rivers abound in seafood - prawns, mackerels, sardines, crabs and lobsters are the most popular with the locals and the visitors.

The Mandovi rises in the wester Ghatts. The upper reaches are still known by the name Mhadei or gomti. It has a lenght of about 64 Kilometers abd meanders through the Talukas of Satari,Ponda and Tiswadi. The river is bridged twice from Panjim and Malim, and has a southwards creek bridged at three places. The older of these bridges, the Ponte Conde de Linhares, populary known as Patto Bridge was built in the 1630s across a distance of 3 Kilometers and has 44 arches, with 38 of them built on the Panaji side. the river's name - Mandovi - derives from vernacular term mandd, which means duties and refer to a pre-Portuguese Medieval time Customs Office, then located at Ela, the former Old Goa.

The river, with its glorious history, invites you to a wonderful pleasure trip by boat that is bound to mesmerize the most excited visitor. Our endeavour at BarcoLento is to make that experience a life-time memory of a three-hour personal experience. The idylic surroundings offer the visitors perfect holiday time. The quiet journey rivals the grace of a most romantic river cruise. It is poetry being written on the waters of the river. As you will soon see, every line of it promise to sink deep into your spirit.

Beware. You 'll come again.
